Surrounded by olive trees, in quiet countryside, this unique and secluded retreat is the ultimate holiday escape. The interiors of this historic house have been sensitively and beautifully created, using pale local stone and traditional building techniques. It makes a peaceful retreat for up to 6 guests. The glass front door opens into the vaulted sitting room, which is a combined living/dining room. It is furnished with a comfortable sofa and a dining table for 4. An open doorway leads into the separate kitchen. The contemporary fitted kitchen is well-equipped with an induction hob, oven, fridge, freezer and a Mokka coffee maker. The outdoor space has been created with as much care as the interiors. The terrace in front of the lamia includes a shaded seating area next to a brick BBQ. Sleeping Bedroom 1: This spacious, arched bedroom is off the living room and has a double bed, an open wardrobe and enjoys access to the terrace. Bedroom 2: The second bedroom is furnished with a king-size double bed and also enjoys access to the terrace Bedroom 3: This charming bedroom is in a separate cottage away from the main house. It is furnished with a king-size double bed and has French windows which open onto the garden. There is an en suite shower room. The town of Alberobello (20 minutes) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a magical town of Trulli – the conical houses which are only found in Puglia. It is also famous for its delicious food and is a centre for the Slow Food Movement. The town’s weekly market (Thursday mornings) is the ideal place to pick up the best local ingredients. Castellana Grotte (17 minutes) is named after the series of caves near the town. This is regarded as the finest cave system in Italy and makes for a spectacular day out. The town itself is a lovely place to explore, with narrow streets and fine squares. The house is only 20 minutes from the Adriatic Coast and 25 minutes from one of the most striking beaches in Italy, Lama Monachile, Polignano a Mare. The white sandy beach is small but the water is clear and a great place for snorkelling. It is also the home of the annual World Cliff Diving Championship. The closest airport is at Bari, a 1-hour drive from the house.
