What's on in France

  1. Mid to late May

    Cannes Film Festival

The Riviera's defining fortnight of cinema and celebrity, held in Cannes each May. Villas along the Côte d'Azur fill quickly, so book well ahead if your stay overlaps.

  2. 21 June

    Fête de la Musique

On the summer solstice, free live music spills into streets and squares across the entire country. Every town near your villa will have something playing into the night.

  3. 14 July

    Fête Nationale, Bastille Day

France's national day brings fireworks, military parades and village balls from Paris to the smallest Provençal town. Watching a local display from a villa terrace is a highlight of any July stay.

  4. July

    Tour de France

The world's greatest bike race sweeps through a different mix of regions each July, from alpine cols to Riviera coast roads. If a stage passes near your villa, the roadside picnic atmosphere is unmissable.

  5. Late September to early October

    Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez

Classic and modern yachts race in the gulf while the old port fills with crews and spectators. The most atmospheric week of the Saint-Tropez autumn, and villas book far ahead.

France through the seasons

  1. Spring (March – May)

    Blossom, vineyards and quiet coasts

Provence greens up, the coast warms before the crowds arrive and the high Alpine resorts keep skiing into April. A lovely season to have the Riviera's villages largely to yourself.

  2. Summer (June – August)

    Riviera beaches and lavender fields

High summer means the Côte d'Azur at full glamour, Provençal lavender in July and long evenings by the pool. Villas with private pools are the smart alternative to packed resorts.

  3. Autumn (September – October)

    Harvest season and warm seas

The vendange fills the wine country while the Mediterranean stays warm into October and Les Voiles brings the sailing world to Saint-Tropez. Arguably the finest weeks for food-led villa holidays.

  4. Winter (December – April)

Alpine ski weeks and festive cities

Chamonix, Courchevel, Val d'Isère and Méribel offer some of the world's best skiing from ski-in chalets. Paris adds a festive city break either side of the slopes.

Overview: Why Rent a Luxury Villa in France

France rewards travellers who want both spectacle and seclusion, and our collection reflects how we work here: deeply in a few places rather than thinly everywhere. In winter that means the Alps — Courchevel, Méribel and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville in Les Trois Vallées, Val d'Isère's high snow-sure slopes, and Megève and Chamonix beneath Mont Blanc. In summer the centre of gravity shifts south to Saint-Tropez and the Cannes area, where villas trade ski rooms for pools and sea views. Every booking is direct, with concierge support for private chefs, transfers and excursions, and a team that knows each village well enough to match the right house to your party and season.

Best Regions and Where to Stay

On the Riviera, Saint-Tropez pairs Pampelonne's beach clubs with a working harbour town and vineyard-backed lanes across the peninsula; our villas spread from the village itself to the quieter reaches of the gulf. The Cannes area suits those who want La Croisette's restaurants and festival energy with hill-village calm minutes behind the coast. In the Alps, Courchevel 1850 is the showpiece, Méribel the family heart of Les Trois Vallées and Saint-Martin-de-Belleville its quiet Savoyard corner; Val d'Isère draws committed skiers, while Megève and Chamonix serve the Mont Blanc side in very different registers — one Belle Époque polish, the other alpinist energy. Each area suits a different mood, and we can advise on the best fit for your group and dates.

Things to Do

On the Riviera, divide days between beach clubs, the perfumeries of Grasse, the galleries of Antibes and Saint-Paul-de-Vence and boat trips along the coast — a day at anchor off Pampelonne remains the classic Saint-Tropez outing. In the Alps, ski or snowboard through winter, then hike, mountain-bike and paraglide once the snow clears; Chamonix's Aiguille du Midi cable car rewards the trip in any season. Food and wine run through all of it, from Provençal markets to alpine cheese cellars. Our concierge team can arrange private guides, tastings, yacht charters and tickets so the planning is handled before you arrive.

Dining and Gastronomy

France is the birthplace of fine dining, and our two regions show its range. Provence and the Riviera lean on olive oil, herbs, seafood and rosé, with celebrated tables in the hills behind Cannes and around the Gulf of Saint-Tropez. The Alps trade in raclette, fondue, tartiflette and Savoie wines, with Courchevel and Megève holding a remarkable share of France's Michelin-starred mountain restaurants. A villa kitchen makes it easy to cook market finds yourself, and our team can engage a private chef to bring a tasting menu to your terrace — seafood by the sea, or a long alpine dinner by the fire.

When to Visit and Getting There

Timing depends on which France you choose. The Riviera shines from May to September, with July and August at their liveliest and June and September quieter, the sea still warm. Alpine chalets run from mid-December to mid-April for skiing, with a green season of hiking and biking from June. France is exceptionally well connected: Nice Côte d'Azur airport serves the Riviera, Geneva, Lyon and Chambéry reach the Alps, and Paris Charles de Gaulle links the rest of the country, with TGV services running to the Tarentaise in winter. Our concierge team can coordinate private transfers from airport or station directly to your villa or chalet door.
