Thailand remains Southeast Asia's most polished villa destination, pairing Andaman and Gulf coastlines with golden temples, superb food and a deep culture of hospitality. A staffed private-pool villa, whether above a Krabi bay, on Koh Samui's quiet west coast or near Phang Nga's long sands, delivers space and service that hotels struggle to match.
Updated October 2026

Where to stay in Thailand
What's on in Thailand
- November full moon
Loy Krathong
Thais float candlelit krathong baskets on rivers, lakes and the sea to honour the water spirits, one of the most beautiful nights of the Thai year wherever you are staying.
- November, alongside Loy Krathong
Yi Peng Lantern Festival, Chiang Mai
Thousands of paper lanterns rise over Chiang Mai in northern Thailand's most photographed festival, worth pairing with a few nights in the north.
- 13 to 15 April
Songkran
Thai New Year turns the whole country into a joyous water festival, with temple ceremonies alongside good-natured street soakings. Book villas early, as it is a national holiday peak.
- September or October, ninth lunar month
Phuket Vegetarian Festival
Phuket Town's Chinese shrine communities stage nine days of processions and rituals, with superb meat-free southern Thai food across the island.
Thailand through the seasons
- Cool season (November – February)
Prime beach weather nationwide
Dry, warm days and calm, clear seas on the Andaman coast make this the peak villa season, crowned by Loy Krathong's candlelit November full moon.
- Hot season (March – May)
Songkran and the year's warmest seas
Temperatures climb and Songkran's water festival sweeps the country in April, while Koh Samui enjoys some of its driest, brightest weeks.
- Green season (June – October)
Lush landscapes and gentle rates
Brief tropical showers keep the Andaman coast emerald and dramatic, with quieter beaches, soft light and the best villa value of the year.
- Gulf transition (October – December)
Samui's rains give way to high season
The Gulf takes its heaviest rain in October and November before Koh Samui dries into its January-to-April prime, while the Andaman is already settling into sunshine.

The Area and Where to Stay
Thailand's villa map follows its two coasts. On the Andaman side, Krabi's Ao Nang is the springboard for the region's celebrated limestone seascapes, while the Phang Nga coast around Khok Kloi, just north of Phuket's airport, offers long, uncrowded beaches and some of the country's most serene villa settings. In the Gulf, Koh Samui balances development and calm: the west coast around Baan Taling Ngam is the island's quiet sunset side, facing the Ang Thong marine park, a world away from busy Chaweng. Inland, the Khao Yai countryside near Khanong Phra, a couple of hours from Bangkok, adds vineyards, cooler air and a national park for a different kind of escape. Across all of them, staffed villas with private pools, chefs and housekeeping are the norm rather than the exception, which is precisely why Thailand suits families and groups so well.
Things to Do
Days on the Andaman coast revolve around the water: longtail and speedboat trips to Railay's cliffs, the Phi Phi islands and the hongs of Phang Nga Bay, along with snorkelling, diving and kayaking through mangroves. Koh Samui offers waterfalls, temple visits to the Big Buddha, boat days in Ang Thong National Marine Park and easy hops to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Everywhere, Thai wellness culture runs deep, from villa massages to serious spa and muay thai programmes. City time in Bangkok brings the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and river life, while Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage forest, shelters elephants and hornbills. Golf is excellent around Phuket, Samui and Khao Yai. Your villa team and concierge arrange boats, guides, drivers and restaurant bookings, which is the quiet luxury of a Thai villa holiday.
Food and Local Flavour
Thai food needs little introduction, but eating it at source recalibrates expectations. Each region keeps its own register: fiery southern curries and just-landed seafood on the coasts, refined royal dishes and street-stall classics in Bangkok, and northern specialities such as khao soi worth seeking out. Beach restaurants grill fish steps from the water, night markets in Phuket Town and on Samui reward grazing, and Bangkok holds everything from Michelin-starred tasting menus to legendary shophouse kitchens. The villa chef, though, is the signature experience: market-fresh green curry, som tam and whole steamed fish by your own pool, adjusted precisely to the family's spice tolerance. Cooking classes, market tours and vineyard lunches in Khao Yai are easily arranged.
When to Visit
Thailand's climate splits by coast. The cool, dry season from November to February is the most comfortable window nationwide, with warm days, lower humidity and clear seas; March and April turn hotter. The Andaman coast, including Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi, sees its rainy season from roughly May to October, when showers are common but often brief. The Gulf runs differently: Koh Samui is driest from January to April and takes its heaviest rain in October and November. Christmas, New Year and Songkran in April are peak periods worth booking many months ahead. Green-season travel brings soft light, lush landscapes and gentler villa rates.
Getting There
Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) is the main international gateway, served nonstop from Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia. From there, short domestic flights fan out to Phuket (HKT), Krabi (KBV) and Koh Samui (USM); Phuket and Krabi also receive direct international services, and Phuket airport sits conveniently close to the Phang Nga coast villas. Koh Samui's boutique airport connects via Bangkok and Singapore. Khao Yai is a two-to-three-hour drive from Bangkok. Private transfers meet every arrival, and most villas include or arrange drivers, since having a car and driver on call is the easiest way to move around. Your concierge coordinates flights, boats and every leg in between.
