The Area
Colorado pairs raw alpine grandeur with cosmopolitan polish. The Rocky Mountains define the state, threaded with more than fifty peaks above 14,000 feet, dense forests, hot springs, mesas and the surreal dunes of Great Sand Dunes National Park. Denver, the high-altitude capital, hums with galleries, music and a celebrated dining scene. Boulder sits handsomely beneath the Flatirons rock formation, balancing outdoor culture with refined sophistication. Colorado Springs anchors the south, framed by the red sandstone of Garden of the Gods and the slopes of Pikes Peak. A luxury villa in Colorado lets you move easily between wilderness and city, whether you crave solitude among the aspens or an evening of culture and craft beer in town.
Where to Stay
Colorado's most coveted addresses cluster around its ski regions, and this is where Smiling House concentrates its more than 250 Colorado homes — above all around Vail and Beaver Creek, whose expansive terrain and polished village life make ski-in, ski-out chalets prized by families and groups, and Steamboat Springs, where famously light snow meets a working ranch town. Aspen and Snowmass deliver glamour, gourmet dining and storied pistes for those wanting a chalet with genuine cachet, while Telluride's box canyon setting offers quieter character. Beyond the slopes, Boulder and the Denver foothills suit travellers blending mountains with city access. Every home comes with concierge support and prime positioning.
Things to Do
Colorado is built for the outdoors. Winter brings world-class skiing and snowboarding, plus snowshoeing, snowmobiling and dog-sledding across the high country. Come summer and autumn, the same mountains open to hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding and white-water rafting, with trails graded for every ability, including ascents of the famous fourteeners. Anglers find blue-ribbon rivers and alpine lakes, while four-wheeling routes climb to ghost towns and old mining passes. Closer to the villas, soak in natural hot springs, tour the wineries near Palisade or take in a concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre, one of the world's most spectacular open-air music venues.
Dining & Nightlife
Colorado rewards an appetite. Its kitchens champion farm-to-table cooking, and regional specialities like Colorado-style green chile appear everywhere from polished dining rooms to casual pubs. The Western Slope around Palisade and Grand Junction holds more than a hundred wineries offering tastings and tours, alongside a fast-growing roster of craft distilleries. Beer is a way of life here, with hundreds of breweries concentrated along the Front Range in Fort Collins, Boulder, Denver and Colorado Springs, and Denver hosts the Great American Beer Festival each autumn. After dark, Denver and Boulder showcase world-class live acts, intimate jazz clubs and festivals, with Red Rocks crowning the state's outdoor music scene.
When to Visit
Colorado is a true year-round destination. The ski season runs roughly December to March, when resorts such as Vail, Beaver Creek and Steamboat see their finest powder, making it the peak window for a luxury chalet. Spring brings quieter slopes and rushing snowmelt rivers. From June to September the high country is at its most inviting for hiking, biking, rafting and festivals, with warm days and crisp mountain nights. Autumn is brief but glorious as aspen groves turn gold across the hillsides. Whatever the season, expect bright high-altitude sun and dramatic shifts in temperature, so layered packing always serves well.
Getting There
Most journeys begin at Denver International Airport, a major hub with extensive long-haul and domestic connections, about a two-hour drive from the central mountain resorts. For direct slope access, Eagle County Regional Airport near Vail and Beaver Creek and Aspen/Pitkin County Airport place you within easy reach of the chalets, while Steamboat Springs is served seasonally via Yampa Valley. Colorado Springs also has its own airport in the south. A hire car is the simplest way to explore the state's scenic mountain passes and far-flung villages, while resort shuttles and private transfers serve the ski regions. Smiling House concierge can arrange seamless transfers so your stay begins the moment you land.
