From the old village crowned by the 14th-century Château-Musée Grimaldi, whose terrace opens onto panoramic views of the coast to Musée Renoir preserves the painter's final home among its olive groves, alongside cafés, art galleries and little squares made for a slow afternoon. Down at the shore, the pebble beach of Plage des Galets and the seaside restaurants of Cros-de-Cagnes line the bay. Everyday essentials are simple too, with an Intermarché Express nearby for self-catering and Cagnes-sur-Mer railway station on the coastal line for easy, car-free days out to Nice, Cannes or the hilltop art village of Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
