The Area and Where to Stay

Food and Local Flavour
Austin takes eating seriously without taking itself seriously. Brisket is the sacrament, from world-famous smokehouses such as Franklin Barbecue to Hill Country meat markets, backed by breakfast tacos, food-truck courts and a fast-rising fine-dining scene. Tex-Mex and margaritas are a way of life, and the surrounding Hill Country produces increasingly serious Texas wine around Fredericksburg alongside small-batch bourbons and craft beer. When to Visit
Spring, from March to May, is prime time: bluebonnets carpet the Hill Country roadsides, temperatures are ideal and SXSW electrifies the city in March. Getting There
Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) sits just southeast of downtown, with nonstop flights from across the United States and direct international service including London. From the airport, downtown is around twenty minutes, Lake Travis homes thirty to fifty minutes, and the Lake LBJ and Horseshoe Bay area roughly an hour and a quarter. A car is essential in Texas; hire one at the airport or let the concierge arrange a private transfer, boat delivery to your dock and drivers for festival nights in the city.
